The mission of Boulder County AIDS Project is to provide support, advocacy, and education to those in our community who are infected or affected by HIV and AIDS, and to serve as an outreach and information center to prevent the further transmission of HIV. Position Summary BCAP’s Development Director provides leadership and accountability to all aspects of a busy fundraising and marketing office. This Director leads a team of three – a Marketing/Special Events Manager, Grants Coordinator, and Volunteer Coordinator – to accomplish these goals. The Development Director is a senior member of BCAP’s Management Team, Development Committee, Finance Committee, attends weekly All Staff meetings and Board meetings upon request. This position is a full-time salaried position and is based in the Boulder office.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a nonprofit community service agency, the organization relies heavily on fundraising to realize its mission. The Development Director serves as the agency’s primary leader for all activities in fund development that support donor creation and retention in order to meet budgeted goals. Areas of fundraising activity include: strategy/ planning; individual giving; monthly giving; planned giving; corporate/business relationships; grants management; events management; and marketing/messaging including social media.

Strategic Development and Planning

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Creates, develops and implements effective strategic approach to fundraising
  • Creates annual fundraising plan to increase agency’s annual revenue and establishes fundraising goals to realize agency deliverables
  • Partners with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Development Committee to achieve fund raising strategies

Fundraising/Donor Relations

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Cultivates meaningful relationships with current donors and builds new relationships with potential donors
  • Corresponds regularly through in-person, telephone, and written form with donors
  • Maintains and cultivates established monthly giving campaign
  • Develops and implements planned giving
  • Oversees event, marketing, social media, and public relations activities
  • Oversees grants management
  • Engages and empowers Board of Directors to meaningfully participate in fundraising activities.
  • Responsible for managing agency messaging to the community
  • Engages staff, board, and volunteers to accomplish fundraising goals

Development Management

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Maintains Donor Perfect database for accurate accounting of all fundraising revenue and produces reports for funders and the Board of Directors
  • Nurtures and manages donor relationships utilizing database
  • Utilizes and analyzes metrics to set goals
  • Ensures donor recognition is provided in a timely manner
  • With Marketing/Special Events manager, produces donor mailings including e- and print newsletters
  • Supervises social media efforts including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube
  • Oversees adherence to related legal and contractual requirements of funding
  • Prepares and administers annual resource development budget
  • Works with management team to create agency’s annual budget
  • Manages and supervises the development team, development interns and volunteers

Community Relations

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Participates in community events where new donors may be cultivated
  • Participates as community leader as representative of the organization
  • Develops and cultivates partnerships with local businesses

Qualifications
The requirements included here represent the knowledge, skill and abilities necessary to perform this job successfully.
• Three years experience as director of development, or three years related experience in fundraising, resource development, sales, marketing, advertising, hotel catering sales, or nonprofit events management
• Experience successfully securing funds for business or nonprofit
• Successful experience creating and executing development/marketing plan
• Familiarity and experience with Moves Management
• Successful history securing sponsorships
• Success in producing nonprofit galas/dinners for 250+ guests
• Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, Donor Perfect, Vertical Response, Facebook, and LinkedIn
• Job offer contingent upon completion of background check
• Able to work with frequent interruptions during the day
• Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time
• Able to lift 50 pounds
