Description
The Colorado Music Festival & Center for Musical Arts (CMF & CMA) seeks applications for the position of Executive Director, a year-round full-time position beginning as early as September, 2013.
Background
The Colorado Music Festival & Center for Musical Arts (CMF & CMA) is a unique nonprofit organization that provides a spectrum of music education opportunities and world-class performances to citizens throughout Boulder County and beyond. Now in its 37th season, the Colorado Music Festival (head quartered in Boulder, CO) brings highly skilled professional musicians from orchestras across the US and Canada for six very special weeks (late June to early August) of performances each summer in Boulder’s unique and historic 1200 seat Chautauqua Auditorium reaching 25,000 attendees annually. Its partner organization, the Center for Musical Arts is located in neighboring Lafayette. Founded in 1995 and merged with the CMF in 2009, the CMA is a member of the National Guild for Community Arts. The CMA offers music lessons, ensembles and performances year-round for all ages and serves more than 550 students. Tuition assistance is available through our Heartstrings Program. The total organization’s budget is in excess of $2,000,000.
The Executive Director has the responsibility to oversee the planning and operational processes for both components of the entire organization. Most of our administrative staff support both the CMF and CMA. Our current Executive Director is stepping down in mid-August to pursue other career opportunities. The Board would like to hire a new Executive Director as quickly as possible.
Position Description:
The CMF & CMA Executive Director reports to the President of the Board of Directors and works closely with our Music Director to plan and present the CMF summer performance programs. This can include contract negotiations, production planning and guest artist support. The Executive Director closely collaborates with the Music Director, staff and Board committees to define the support programs (marketing and development) needed to meet our marketing and attendance goals for the summer festival. He or she also works closely with the CMA
faculty and staff to define programs and offerings that meet the music education goals of the county-wide participants.
The Executive Director oversees the selection and evaluation of the organization’s staff and acts as the primary staff representative to the Board of Directors. He or she (or a staff appointee) works closely with various standing Board committees to plan and implement programs for the entire organization. The Executive Director is the primary representative to the community and the primary fund-raiser for all our offerings.
