The Position:
The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospects for significant gifts to The Community Foundation. The Major Gifts Officer works with the development team, board members, and other major donors to The Community Foundation to identify new prospects and to cultivate and solicit existing major gift donors in support of The Community Foundation at the highest level of their capacity and commitment. The organization conducts fundraising in three ways, and the Major Gifts Officer works across all these areas:
- Working on major gifts for The Community Foundation’s Leadership work, including various programs and initiatives related to school readiness, inclusive leadership, and other work;
- Assisting with major gifts to support the Foundation’s operations; and
- Managing a portfolio of donors who already have funds established at The Community Foundation, and who are regular givers.
Responsibilities Include:
- Builds a working prospect list of individuals with the capacity and inclination to give significant gifts to The Community Foundation.
- Works with Foundation staff, board members, and donors to cull information and contacts that will aid in the building of a prospect list.
- Works with the Foundation’s development team to build a track to identify and upgrade entry- and mid-level donors that have the capacity to become major donors to The Community Foundation.
- Works with the Foundation’s development team to build a list of trusted professional advisors in the community to meet with and keep updated about the Foundation.
- Develops goals and strategies for each prospect and maintains regular personal contact with these prospects through telephone, personal visits, notes, and e-mail in order to build a relationship that will benefit both the donor and the organization's fundraising goals.
- Meets measurable metrics related to personal visits, stewardship activities, development and community events, and solicitations annually.
- Keeps meticulous track of the information learned about The Community Foundation donors and enters that information into the organization's electronic database in a timely manner. Ensures the information about the prospects and donors in the portfolio is complete and accurate.
- Maintains a working knowledge of The Community Foundation’s history, brand, program and initiative activity and is able to represent the organization effectively in any public arena.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
1. Knowledge: Bachelor’s degree required; working knowledge of local community issues is preferred.
2. Experience: At least five years of experience in individual gift fundraising, sales, or work with philanthropic institutions. Experience in personal soliciting and obtaining major gifts preferred.
3. Skills and Abilities:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills – creative, warm, energetic, responsive and collaborative. Customer service or donor relations experience preferred.
• Strong organizational and project management skills, including sharp attention to detail – ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Familiarity with relational databases required, as well as proficiency with MS Office applications. Knowledge of FIMS is a plus.
• Flexibility to work some early mornings, evenings and occasionally on weekends.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality,
• Capacity to meet strong deadlines, manage systems, and set priorities are essential. Must be creative, flexible, responsible, and able to balance a variety of activities.

Salary: We are interested in hearing from candidates looking for a full-time or ¾-time position, with hours from 9:00a-3:00p Monday through Friday for part time. This hire will need to attend occasional early morning and evening events. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
