We know you have limited time to keep up on your reading so this week we will not fill your inbox with our own musings. Rather, we implore you to read this study from Jeanne Bell and Marla Cornelius at CompassPoint.
Then, we doubly implore you to share it with your Executive Director, Development Director and Board.
The study describes a VICIOUS CYCLE:
“The lack of a favorable climate for fundraising leads to premature development director departures. These departures, in turn, disrupt the relationship building that is key to individual donor cultivation, and prevent organizations from developing and sustaining the conditions for development success. This, in turn, makes it harder for an organization to recruit and retain its next development director, and so on.”
This story is one we are familiar with…we see it every single day in our work with nonprofits.
Thankfully, the study offers a call to action in the form of ten excellent recommendations.
Our personal favorite? Share accountability for fundraising results.
Our second favorite? Set realistic goals for development. How’s that for an idea?!
Like we said…READ THIS STUDY.
Then see how you can respond to the challenge at your own organization and begin to break that cycle.
