Director of Marketing & Development
Background
Established in 2004, Qualistar’s mission is to elevate quality in early childhood education in Colorado by improving everyday practice of professionals, and by building safe, supportive environments. We provide assessments, training, grants, scholarships, and technical assistance to licensed providers, collaborating with state and local entities to efficiently and effectively deliver solutions across the state. We continually scan Colorado’s early childhood landscape to identify gaps and to drive innovation in development of systems and solutions designed to improve quality. We protect and promote high quality in early care and education by advocating for policies that advance quality and increase awareness of its importance in our early childhood system.

Position Purpose and Scope
The Director of Marketing and Development is responsible for securing financial resources through grants and appeals which will support the organization’s programs and services. The Director is also responsible for helping to build and manage the organization’s brand and all aspects of marketing communications in order to raise awareness of the organization. The Director reports to the CEO, and works closely with the Board and management of the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan and monitor fund development activities
• Set the organization’s strategic fundraising agenda to achieve and exceed its revenue goals through the solicitation of individual, corporate and foundation support and grants
• Prepare regular reports on progress, budgets, receipts and expenditure related to fundraising and the management of activities
• Monitor trends in the community or region and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary
Organize and steward fund development activities
• Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure plans and critical fund raising processes are carried out in a timely manner
• Manage the grant application pipeline and reporting calendar for an approximately $1.5M grant portfolio
• Prepare and submit grant applications and report in consultation with the program and finance teams
• Maintain strong working relationships with Qualistar’s foundation partners
• Oversee the planning and delivery of special fundraising events
• Oversee the administration of a donor mailing list within the Salesforce database to ensure privacy and accuracy and the collection of donor data that will inform future development activities
Staff fund development activities
• Expand and enhance the essential role of the Board of Directors and President in fundraising
• Foster an understanding of philanthropy within the organization so that team members understand that fundraising and stewardship are part of everyone’s job
Promote the organization
• Develop and execute with the CEO a comprehensive marketing plan that includes events, media relations, press releases, social networking, Annual Report, website, newsletters, and branding
• Oversee all marketing and outreach operations, including contracting with and managing consultants, preparing and managing the marketing and outreach budget, and fulfilling development and communications requests from the board of directors, other staff members and outside stakeholders
• Manage the production and distribution of quality ancillary materials that support development and marketing goals
• Responsible with the CEO to grow positive awareness of the organization and strengthen its reputation with clients, funders and the communities it serves
• In conjunction with the CEO, assist with the cultivation of civic organizations, the Board of Directors, corporate, foundation and business representatives via presentations, tours and volunteerism
Required Skills and Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree (required), Master’s degree (preferred)
• A minimum of five years’ experience in marketing and development
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Proven success in areas of individual and corporate giving as well as grant writing and funding
• High energy, outgoing, team player, and a passion for Qualistar’s mission is essential
• Working mastery of computer programs including: Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel, and familiarity with Salesforce is a plus
• Documented experience with nonprofit marketing and social media
