About YouthBiz: Over 20 years ago, eight inner-city teens and a local community leader started YouthBiz to teach job and life skills to youth from some of Denver’s most underserved communities. YouthBiz has remained true to the founding spirit by providing an entrepreneurial-based learning and venture launch environment. In the twenty years since the organization’s inception, YouthBiz has served over 5,500 youth and distributed over $1.5 million dollars through entrepreneurial-focused programs. About the Program:
Entrepreneurial Leaders is our capstone program for youth participants to create, manage and own an entrepreneurial venture. EL is open to youth of all ages with foundational knowledge, skills and personal drive to create a short or long-term entrepreneurial venture. Youth in the Entrepreneurial Leaders program are paired one-on-one with an industry-specific adult mentor, participate in CEO Roundtables, are provided with access to marketplaces and distribution channels, and receive individualized coaching from the EL Program Manager. The EL Program Manager position is responsible for utilizing the resources and curriculum available to teach everything from the lifecycle of a business and profit reinvestment to leadership and social enterprise.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Facilitate a cohort of 6-10 youth per program session (typically ages 12-19).
• Collaborate with Emerging Entrepreneurs Facilitator and other program staff on program content, activities, and objectives to maximize program impact.
• Coordinate various logistics on a daily basis, such as food services, facility management, community relations, and youth transportation for field trips.
• Communicate with participants, parents/guardians, educators, and any other relevant stakeholders to ensure participant success in program.
• Develop and facilitate CEO Roundtables (2 roundtables per session). Identify, screen and arrange CEO participation.
• Proactively identify potential challenges amongst participants and identify and implement solutions.
• Develop and coordinate relationships with industry-specific mentors for each business. Identify, screen and match mentors with youth and provide framework for mentor/coaching sessions (youth are required to meet with their mentors at least 8 times per session).
• Provide weekly coaching to youth participants/businesses.
• Model professional and entrepreneurial behaviors at all times.
• Attend all meetings, trainings, fundraisers, and events as requested and/or required.
Required skills, experiences, and qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or working towards such.
• Experience in youth development, urban education, or K-12 education.
• Firmly believes that entrepreneurship is a path toward social and economic advancement for inner-city youth.
• Willing to champion the mission and approach of YouthBiz by being a positive, proactive ambassador within the youth and economic development sectors, as well as business and start-up communities.
• Familiarity with business marketing, operations, management, basic finance, and entrepreneurship principles
• Demonstrated ability to think critically, problem solve effectively, and strive continuously to improve
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
Preferred skills, experiences, and qualifications
• Experience working with a startup culture and/or with entrepreneurship
• Bilingual in English and Spanish
• Urban K-12 facilitation experience
• Background in business
• Youth entrepreneurship experience
• Nonprofit experience
Details
• 10-15 hours/week
o 5-7 hours direct program facilitation/coaching sessions
o 5-7 hours planning: resource preparation, student work evaluation, tracking, and reporting, liaising with CEOs and adult mentors/coaches
• Monday – Friday: Hours flexible and can be arranged directly between youth participants and EL Program Manager. May be during the day and/or after school/evening hours.
• Some Saturdays required, with advance notice. One CEO Roundtable per session will be scheduled on a Saturday. Other program facilitation may take place on Saturdays if mutually agreed upon between EL Program Manager and youth participants.
• Part-time position March - December, 2014.
