Boulder Mountainbike Alliance Seeks Executive Director:
The International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) and the Boulder Mountainbike Alliance (BMA) are seeking candidates for an exempt, salaried, full-time position as BMA Executive Director. The position will focus on increasing BMA’s financial capacity with fundraising and grant writing, bolstering membership growth, and cultivating volunteer leadership. Other goals for the position include coordinating local advocacy, marketing and communications, and cultivating public land management agency partnerships.
POSITION DUTIES AND GOALS
It is anticipated that the ED will spend 60% of his/her time on development: cultivating donors, fundraising campaigns, and securing business memberships and organizational sponsors. Development tasks will include:
- Developing a fundraising strategy with goals and measurable objectives
- Recruiting new business memberships, and managing and retaining existing business memberships
- Developing and implementing strategies to grow individual memberships
- Building relationships and securing donations from individual donors and sponsors
- Developing and coordinating fundraising campaigns and events
- Engaging, guiding, and supporting BMA board members in fundraising efforts
- Working with BMA’s grant writer and board members on grant proposals
- Coordinating with IMBA’s membership services team on membership drives and membership retention
Aside from the primary roles of fundraising, representing the organization, developing community relationships, and building and supporting the BMA community, the ED will be tasked with supporting other BMA work. Some of these tasks are handled by BMA board members, volunteers, or existing paid staff, and could require leadership, guidance, and/or support from the ED:
- Volunteer Coordination: Maintaining and building a volunteer database, and growing BMA volunteerism
- Advocacy: Coordinating advocacy efforts, meeting with local government officials
- Events: Coordinating, advertising, and recruiting volunteer assistance and sponsors for events
- Promotions: Marketing, advertising and promoting BMA events, volunteer projects, campaigns through a variety of community channels
- Media: Developing and maintaining a relationship with local media and news outlets
- Partnerships: Building and maintaining relationships with local government agencies, local business, other non-profits, and the cycling industry
- Communications: Social media, newsletter, maintenance of the online events calendar, website updates, letters to the editor
- Board coordination: Facilitating board committee tasks, attending and providing updates at each monthly board meeting (required)
- Paperwork: Handling BMA assets and ensuring that there are adequate policies, procedures, and protections in place (insurance, fiscal policies, and legal compliance)
- Overseeing contractors: Supervising performances of BMA contractors (IT, volunteer coordinator, grant writer, trail planner, bookkeeper)
General non-profit administration
DESIRED REQUIREMENTS
- Passion for and interest in mountain biking, outdoor recreation, conservation
- Track record of raising funds from individuals, businesses, foundations, and corporate sponsors
- Experience serving on or working with a non-profit board of directors
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with volunteer leadership development
- Savviness with social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Hootsuite), database products (CiviCRM), mass mail clients (MailChimp, Constant Contact)
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
- An entrepreneurial spirit
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends

- Full-time salaried exempt
- Compensation commensurate with experience and non-profit industry standards
- Home based position, preferred location is Boulder County
- Starting date: Spring 2015
