Description
Rainforest Action Network is looking for a Development Director. For 25 years, Rainforest Action Network has campaigned for the forests, their inhabitants and the natural systems that sustain life. In coalition with Indigenous communities and allies from around the world, RAN uses non-violent direct action, grassroots organizing, education, and strategic communications to challenge corporations to stop destructive operations, respect human rights, and adopt comprehensive policies that reduce their contributions to global warming.
The Development Director is a leadership team level position responsible for leading an experienced fundraising team to raise an annual budget of about $4.5 million. RAN’s revenues are comprised of donations from four primary sources: major donors, members, foundations, and special events. The primary focus of this position will be to continue to deepen and expand our membership and major donor base. The Development Director is expected to leverage RAN’s program achievements and media coverage into meaningful connections with potential donors and interested parties as well as to create and hold the vision for fundraising at RAN as we step into our 25th year of cutting edge environmental activism.
Responsibilities:
* Develop annual revenue plan and monthly cash flow projections for the organization in conjunction with Executive Director and Development department staff;
* Work with Development department staff to develop integrated annual work plans and revenue forecasts to meet the organization’s goals;
* Work with the Executive Director and program directors to prioritize long-term fundraising goals, and develop strategies and tactics to meet those goals;
* Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major donors and prospects with the assistance of the Executive Director, key staff and the Board;
* Organize the cultivation and solicitation efforts of the Executive Director and members of the Board Development Committee;
* Assist the communications team to develop the RAN annual report;
* Oversee the membership program including direct mail, monthly giving, and online campaigns with the goal of long term, sustainable growth;
* Oversee special events including RAN’s signature REVEL event, smaller functions in New York and LA as well as house parties;
* Supervise the foundations department to develop grant strategies and oversee foundation solicitation and grant administration;
* Facilitate key staff to solicit funds, in-kind gifts and the donation of proceeds from the sociallyresponsible business sector through the IMPACT program;
* Oversee the planned giving program;
* Continually identify and analyze new fundraising opportunities;
* Oversee the operations of the development department and manage the development team.
